We are proud to welcome the Interfaith Council of New Americans Westchester (ICNAW) into the Neighbors for Refugees family.
Both groups were formed at similar times and share a common mission, and now we are combining efforts to make even more of an impact. ICNAW families will soon be joining our active client roster of people who are currently receiving legal, housing, food, employment and healthcare support from Neighbors.
As the federal government slashes assistance programs like SNAP and Medicaid, and ramps up detentions and deportations, bringing Neighbors and ICNAW together will ensure that we can continue to defend and support all our families. Rather than giving up hope at this difficult time, we continue to be optimistic about the future of immigrants in our country.
As you know, it is all but impossible right now to resettle new families into the country, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t continuing our work. In fact, we are working diligently to protect and assist those already here for longer periods of time.
Recent Neighbors highlights include:
Conducting legal and economic risk assessments for virtually all Neighbors and ICNAW families
Defending successfully against five ICE check-in appearances
Filing a habeas corpus petition to free a family member trapped in a Texas detention camp for more than a year
Funding legal services for the brother and new spouse of a long-term Neighbors family so they can get their green cards
Providing medical assistant training and employment support for an Afghan woman, once banned from working under the Taliban regime, who just landed her first job
Subsidizing rent payments for a family seeking better employment in a difficult job market
We also helped provide proper pre- and post-natal care for a baby recently born to a young couple—the 10th child born in America to families under our support umbrella.
Please know that our work continues and your support will go a long
away. Thank you for helping us multiply the hope in 2026.
